Daniel’s Donuts launches 30g protein pie for footy season
New beef and cheese pie has nearly double the protein of its standard version.
Daniel’s Donuts has launched a Protein Beef & Cheese Pie containing 30g of protein per serve ahead of the footy season.
The company said the new product has nearly double the protein of a standard Daniel’s Beef & Cheese Pie and comes with a puff pastry crust.
Daniel’s said the pie is aimed at consumers playing sports, training, or watching a game day at home. AFL Premiership player Beau McCreery is fronting the launch campaign.
“I’m always looking for food that actually fills you up and keeps you going, especially during the season,” McCreery said. “This one ticks both boxes. It has the protein side of things covered, and it’s delicious. You don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything.”
Demand for functional food has grown, especially with the use of weight loss drugs, changing consumption habits. A separate report by Circana said that there is a growing opportunity in product innovation, such as from high-protein, low-calorie, and portion-control options in the foodservice industry.
Daniel’s launched in 2016 with pies backed by more than 40 years of baking heritage, based on recipes developed by founder Daniel Bartalotta’s family.
The company said every pie is made from scratch at its Truganina pie factory using house-made pastry and crafted filling
