Macca’s McHappy Day raises $6.03m for seriously ill, injured children
The support has provided more than 37,600 nights of accommodation at RMHC nationwide.
Aussies have raised $6.03m for McHappy Day this year, which will go towards helping Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) to support seriously ill or injured children and their families through Ronald McDonald Houses, Family Rooms, Family Retreats, Hospitality Carts, and Learning Program.
The support has provided more than 37,600 nights of accommodation at Ronal McDonald House Charities (RMHC) nationwide for families of seriously ill or injured children, so they can stay together and close to the care they need whilst undergoing surgery or treatment in the hospital.
Aussies showed their support and generosity by: ordering Big Macs from Macca’s restaurants on McHappy Day, with $2 from every Big Mac sold going directly to RMHC; buying Grimace x McNugget Buddies Reversible Bucket Hats, Grimace or McNugget Buddies Fold-Down Silly Socks and Helping Hands, with all profits going directly to RMHC; making a direct donation online; and rounding up their Macca’s orders.
Among the beneficiaries were 13-year-old Dallas, his mother Rhiannon, and sister Indiana from regional New South Wales have been staying with Ronald McDonald House Randwick for over 87 nights so far and are one of the 64,000 families across Australia who are supported by RMHC each year.
“When Dallas was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, he went from a kid who could ride his bike on Monday to a kid that couldn’t walk and needed a wheelchair on Wednesday,” Rhiannon said.
“We have travelled seven hours for treatment, so having a place to stay at the Ronald McDonald House has meant that his sister and I can be by his side, which would have been incredibly difficult otherwise,” she added.
McDonald’s launched McHappy Day in Australia in 1991, becoming the largest annual fundraiser for RMHC and raising over $73m over 33 years so far.
