Pie Face responds to reports on dept of immigration visit
The brand issued a statement addressing recent reports in the media saying that immigration officials swooped on their brand.
Kevin Waite, Pie Face CEO said, “Firstly, ‘Immigration officials swoop on Pie Face operations’ is dramatically incorrect. Two very professional, polite, friendly and helpful gentleman from the Department of Immigration met with me in my office at an agreed time of 12pm yesterday. There was no ‘swooping’.”
“Secondly “likely accounting data including wage payments were seized” is factually incorrect. Nothing at all was ‘seized’.
Waite said, “The two gentlemen were responding to an anonymous call from the ‘dob-in’ line some time ago. They did mention that often these anonymous ‘dob-in’ calls were from disgruntled ex-employees of companies, and they get them all the time. It's their job to check out which complaints are real, and to protect the visa workers, which we welcome and respect.”
“We were very welcoming of the officials and showed them around our facility, during which time they could observe the six 457 visa employees at work in their daily routines. We then provided a private room in which the officials could interview each of the six 457 visa holders. They interviewed each visa holder for about 10 minutes, came and said good-bye to me and stated that if they need any more info they will let me know.
“It goes without saying that in rebuilding this company ethically we have our employees best interests at heart, and we ensure that we do what is right by them and what is right legally. It is important to note that all of our 457 visa holders have worked in the company for at least four years, some as many as 8 years. They are some of best and most valued employees and we would not do anything to lose them.”
“All six of our 457 employees are paid their annual salaries in accordance with their visas.”
