Be part of the conversation with the government on the proposed changes to the then Fair Work Act

Damian Paull, CEO of Franchise Council of Australia, encouraged businesses to voice their concerns with the government.

Paull issued a letter to the leaders in the franchise sector, as follows.

Dear leaders of franchising:

The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) has been working extensively behind the scenes to ensure that the franchise sector's interests are strongly and clearly communicated to the Government and responsible Minister.

We continue to sit at the table as the Government seeks to implement its election commitment to 'better protect vulnerable workers'. However, significant concerns remain with the proposal. Although we value that the Government has consulted us on the proposed reform, we believe that more changes are required to ensure that the legislation supports franchising.

Amendments have been made to the proposed Bill in response to the FCA submissions and advocacy and we will maintain engagement with the Government, Coalition Members and Senators to seek further improvements to the legislation.

On 23 March 2017 the Senate referred an inquiry into the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Vulnerable Workers) Bill 2017 to the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 9 May 2017. The closing date for submissions is 6 April 2017.

This is your chance to voice your concerns and step up to be a leader in your industry and act in a fast and effective manner.

The FCA has commissioned FRANdata to conduct a survey to gauge the impact of the Fair Work Amendment, to provide further key metrics data to support the advocacy work the FCA has been doing to ensure that franchising continues to be a viable and successful model of business, which contributes between 8-10% of Australia’s GDP and has over 79,000 small business units with more than 470,000 people employed. We have structured the survey to be as effective as possible, with 29 multiple choice questions which should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Reaction and Impacts Survey on the Australian Franchise Sector following the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Vulnerable Workers) Bill 2017.

On behalf of the FCA, we strongly encourage you to complete this survey urgently to support the industry that supports you.
