Hudsons Coffee awards its best barista
Adam deVries of Greenslopes Private Hospital was named the Hudsons Coffee 2012 National Barista Champion.
The top six competitors from across the country travelled to Melbourne on 16th August to impress the panel of judges with their coffee skills and attempt to win prizes including a Dubai holiday and a Nuova Simonelli Musica home coffee machine worth $3,000.
Each of the six finalists was required to prepare 12 beverages in 15 minutes – four Espressos, four Cappuccinos, and four ‘signature beverages’ which were assessed on taste, presentation, technical skill, and cleanliness.
DeVries, who was second runner up in the 2011 Hudsons Coffee Barista Competition, won the championship this year with his signature drink. The drink incorporated vanilla bean ice-cream, ginger, mango, lemongrass, and Hudsons Premium Blend espresso.
The new champion said, “I am honoured to be named the 2012 Hudsons Coffee National Barista Champion and represent the Hudsons Coffee brand. With the help and support of my wife Allison I have been able to create a unique signature drink, which reflects my love of Queensland’s amazing local produce.”
