Philippines’ Potato Corner bakes Australian entry

Stores will have exclusive specialty flavors as part of the brand’s localisation strategy.

Philippine fast food concept Potato Corner is set to make its Australian debut, starting with a store in Perth’s Westfield Carousel shopping centre in Cannington on September 18.

Two additional stores will also open within six months in the city, the brand said in an announcement sent to QSR Media.

Including Australia, Potato Corner - known for its freshly cooked shoestring fries coated in various flavours - already has a presence in 12 countries and has 1,400 stores globally.

The Australian market will have exclusive specialty flavors, chipmite and salt & vinegar, citing a brand localisation strategy. Chicken wings, “fully-loaded” fries and burgers are also in the launch plan.

"We are continuously expanding our global presence in key markets despite the COVID-19 pandemic.  We have opened 16 new stores in Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and Canada and 17 more stores are in the pipeline for our 2021 expansion program,” Kathryna Manalo, general manager for the brand’s international markets group, said.

Other territories in the pipeline for market entry include New Zealand, Vietnam and China, she added.
