GYG to open in Newcastle

This will be Guzman y Gomez’ 18th restaurant.

GYG Hamilton, the first in Newcastle, will open on November 8 with free Burritos and Burrito Bowls as giveaways.

In an attempt to smash the current record of 4,558 Burritos given away by Albert St, GYG Hamilton is challenging Novocastrians to join in the nine-hour celebration from 11am complete with mariachi band, spot prizes, and a bumper crowd.

Steven Marks, who started GYG Newtown in 2006, said everything at GYG is prepared fresh and made to order even on Free Burrito Day. “We bring in the A-team consisting of more then 40 experienced crew members to ensure the GYG experience is perfect, every time,” said Marks.

Part owner and local legend Ben Kennedy, on the other hand, believes Newcastle was the obvious next step and a perfect fit for GYG. “Newcastle’s beach culture is relaxed and humble, just like Mexico’s,” he said.

One Burrito or Burrito Bowl per person will be given away, and no other menu items are available on Free Burrito Day. Meanwhile the full GYG drinks range will be available.

GYG Hamilton is located at 86 Beaumont Street.
