Zarraffa’s Coffee names Australia Zoo’s newest addition
This is part of the coffee brand’s support towards Wildlife Warriors.
Zarraffa’s Coffee won the naming rights for the newest addition to Australia Zoo during the Steve Irwin Gala Dinner grand auction held in Los Angeles in May 2023.
Kenton Campbell, Zarraffa’s Coffee Managing Director and Founder named the baby giraffe Zarafa, meaning “charming”, or “lovely one”, and also “giraffe” in Arabic.
The Steve Irwin Gala is a celebration of the original Wildlife Warrior – Steve Irwin. These annual events, which take place in Brisbane and Los Angeles, honour Steve’s larger than life personality and his extraordinary passion for wildlife.
“This World Giraffe Day, Australia Zoo and Zarraffa’s Coffee are proud to introduce the world to Zarafa, an important member of Australia Zoo’s very successful endangered species breeding program and a proud ambassador for her kind, which are now classified as endangered in Africa,” Robert Irwin, son of Steve Irwin, said.
Born on 14th May, Mother’s Day, to parents Sally and Guinness World Record holder Forest, the tallest living giraffe in the world measuring at 5.7 metres (18 feet and 8 inches), adorable Zarafa has enjoyed a quiet start to her life in a private habitat with her mum and loving Australia Zoo keepers.
Zarafa is now ready to venture onto the African savannah to join the rest of her herd of giraffes as well as the rhinos and zebras, welcoming excited Australia Zoo visitors from the 24th of June.
“Giraffes have had a special meaning to our team and customers for over 25 years, and now we are able to play a part in the journey of a living legacy, through little Zarafa and our friends at Australia Zoo,” Campbell said.
