Wendy’s opens first drive-thru in Australia
It is also the first restaurant in the state of Victoria.
Wendy’s has officially announced that it will open its first restaurant in Victoria and its first-ever drive-thru restaurant in Australia.
Opening on Wednesday 24 June at 1A Assembly Drive, Dandenong South, the new restaurant features dine-in seating for up to 74 guests, along with a new-format drive-thru.
According to Wendy’s, the format takes crew members to work directly in the drive-thru lanes, greeting customers face-to-face, taking orders on handheld tablets and confirming them on screen for accuracy.
The opening created approximately 100 jobs in the local community.
“The category has spent decades training customers to shout into a speaker box and hope someone gets the order right. Wendy’s is doing things differently. We’re putting customers back at the centre of the experience from the moment they arrive. It’s a more human approach to service, designed to feel more personal, more accurate and more welcoming,” Corina Black, Chief Marketing Officer, Wendy’s ANZ, said.
“Dandenong South is an important milestone for Wendy’s in Australia and the first step in our Victorian growth plans. We see strong potential in the state and are excited to invest in a restaurant format that brings something genuinely different to customers while creating jobs in the local community,” Richard Wallis, President, Flynn Group Asia Pacific, said.
Ahead of the launch, Wendy’s took over the iconic AC/DC Lane for a one-day-only "Walk-Thru" pop-up, giving away 300 free burgers to hungry Melburnians ahead of the brand's long-awaited Victorian arrival.
The move follows Wendy’s record-breaking Queensland launch, which achieved the strongest opening week sales in Wendy’s global history and generated overwhelming demand from Australian customers.
The new restaurant will be open Sundays to Thursdays from 9 AM to 11 PM and Fridays to Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 AM
Wendy’s reiterates its commitment to open 200 restaurants across Australia over the next decade.
