Here’s what the fast-food restaurant of the future looks like

Staff should focus on the dine-in experience, an industry leader said.

 

A staff focused on improving the in-house experience and customers ordering using various point-of-sale (POS) technology is what the future of the fast food restaurant industry would look like according to Jeremy Van Dille, General Manager at Deliverect Asia Pacific.

In a quick interview at QSR Media Asia Deliverect Conference & Awards 2023, Jeremy said he sees a future of more streamlined operations for the fast-food industry.

“People are used to ordering online without having to speak to someone face to face. QR ordering will spike, and so will kiosk ordering. So in the future, you would only need staff to prepare the food and not to accept orders and key them in manually for the kitchen to prepare,” Jeremy said.

Jeremy shared similar progress with Guzman y Gomez, an Australian brand that has operations in Singapore. The brand struggled with monitoring online orders, especially during lunch or dinner hours. This means that sometimes delivery orders were pending for a few minutes because a staff member needed to take the orders and manually input them into the POS machine so that the kitchen staff can make the order.

Deliverect integrated the brand’s online ordering platform so that no human interaction would be required and orders went straight to the kitchen. This lets the rest of the staff focus on the end dining experience and cut down the five people who have to monitor the POS machine to three people.

“People created different habits and the QSR brands have adjusted during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Now QSRs should be able to handle a huge influx of delivery orders and have to always be prepared to accept in-house dine-in guests. Now it’s just the best of both worlds,” Jeremy said.
