Zambrero urges communities to fight hunger on World Food Day
The Mexican food chain invited local communities to participate in a Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event on World Food Day, Friday 16 October.
With an aim to collectively package 350,000 meals across eight cities: Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Townsville, Wagga Wagga and Adelaide, hundreds of volunteers are needed. The brand is recruiting volunteers to donate two hours of their time packing meals to be donated locally via Foodbank and overseas via distribution partner Stop Hunger Now.
“Hunger is a hidden crisis in Australia with one in ten Australians – half of whom are children - seeking food relief each year according to Foodbank,” Zambrero founder Dr Sam Prince said.
“Zambrero is on a mission to end world hunger in our lifetime and wants Australians to join us in tackling this serious issue – though we do promise packaging events are lots of fun!”
The meals packaged on Friday 16 October will be distributed to Australia’s neediest communities and to the Philippines, Stop Hunger Now’s chosen recipient among 795 million people globally that the United Nations recently announced are undernourished.
The meals that will be packaged on World Food Day include dehydrated soy, rice and lentils fortified with 21 essential vitamins and nutrients.
Volunteers will work in teams funnelling the ingredients into packages led by specially trained Zambrero staff members.
