What the appointment of the NSW small business Commissioner means for QSRs
Focus on reducing red tape for businesses.
The NSW government has announced the appointment Ms Robyn Hobbs OAM, as the new Small Business Commissioner, for a term of 5 years, beginning later this month.
The role was established as an independent statutory officer following last year's passage of the Small Business Commissioner Bill, and according to Minister for Small Business, Katrina Hodgkinson, underlines "the NSW Government's commitment to encouraging growth of small businesses in NSW".
However, of particular interest to the QSR industry will be what is on the top of the agenda for the new appointee. Red tape and leases for retail premises have long been an area of concern and frustration for the sector but help may be at hand, with Ms Hobbs being quoted as saying "the review of the Retail Leases Act will be one of my immediate challenges, but I look forward to working hard to identify and advise the NSW Government on ways it can reduce the regulatory burden on small businesses".
