Victoria saw the most store openings.
GapMaps, a cloud-based data intelligence platform used by brands to pinpoint optimal locations for its physical stores, has released its monthly Fast Food & Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Retail Network Report, tracking store openings and closures in Australia for the three months ending 1 April, 2023.
Monitoring 29 brands in 6,809 locations across Australia, the report shows 53 new stores opened and 44 closed: a net change of nine additional stores.
Amongst the brands tracked, Sushi Hub (+10), Pizza Hut (+seven) and Dominos (+five) led store openings in the quarter, whilst Sushi Sushi and Red Rooster recorded the most store closures with five each.
At a state level, Victoria saw the most store openings with 20, whilst New South Wales recorded the most closures with 17.
“Despite 44 store closures in the reporting period, we continue to see store growth overall, with 53 new premises added,” said Scott Johnson, Senior Analyst, GapMaps.
“This latest store data continues to illustrate how brands are adjusting their network portfolio to cater for demographic changes as they look for optimum locations across the country,” he adds.
“Our GapMaps Live platform continues to provide network planners with the very latest data to help them make more informed decisions on where to open and close their restaurants, and get timely insights into the changing competitive landscape across the fast food and quick service restaurant sector.”
