KFC outlets in ANZ give continued boost to Restaurant Brands' sales
Sales of Pizza Hut stores in New Zealand, however, fell by 5.9%.
KFC outlets in ANZ continue to drive growth for Restaurant Brands, who reported $259.m in total sales for Q2 or the 16 weeks to 9 September, an increase of $8.8m or 3.5% compared to the same period last year.
The multi-brand franchise operator’s KFC Australia sites experienced AU$58.8m (NZ$62.m) in Q2 sales, up by 5.8% on both a total basis and a same store basis.
Year to date sales for KFC Australia were AU$99.5m (NZ$104.8m), an increase of 4.2% on a total basis and 5.9% on a same store basis. Store numbers remained constant at 61.
Q2 sales for KFC New Zealand were NZ$113.5m, up by 8.8% on the equivalent period last year and up 6.1% on a same store basis for this quarter. Its year to date sales for were $193.5m, an increase of 7.9% on a total basis and 5.7% on a same store basis.
Sales for Restaurant Brands-owned Pizza Hut stores in New Zealand were $10.6 million in Q2, falling by 5.9% on the equivalent period last year. Same store sales for the quarter were down by 4.3%.
Year to date sales, meanwhile, were $18.3m, a decrease of 10.5% in total, and down 4.4% on a same store basis.
Restaurant Brands-owned store numbers, according to the company, decreased by one during the quarter and were up by one from last year to 30, as the brand continues to build and sell stores to independent franchisees. Currently, there are now 70 Pizza Hut stores operated by independent franchisees of a network of 100 stores.
Network total sales for Q2 were $30.9 million, 4.7% less compared to last year. Year to date network total sales were $53.6m, a decrease of 4.0%.
Total Carl’s Jr. sales for the second quarter were $10.7m, an 8.3% rise compared to the same period last year following the introduction of delivery via the UberEats platform. Same store sales for the quarter were up by 8.2%.
Year to date sales for Carl’s Jr. were $19.0m, an increase of 8.8% on a total basis and 9.8% on a same store basis. Store numbers remained steady at 18 during the quarter.
The company expects to release its half-year results on 16 October.
