Find out how Chompers is stirring up the suburban takeaway scene

QSR Media sat down with Simon Bowe, director at Chompers, to talk about how the brand aims to reinvent the takeaway scene with its offerings.

QSR Media: Can you tell us more about Chompers?

Simon Bowe: Chompers is reinventing the suburban takeaway market – fish & chips and burgers. Run by 2 brothers with a passion for food, Chris & Simon, Chompers was started nearly 8 years ago when we saw that suburban takeaway was stuck in the past. Many of the local takeaway stores are run down, dirty and have been serving the same meals for decades.

Chompers has changed this with fresh, clean stores with open kitchens . We focus on delivering a better experience with a different, quality menu options.

Our food is of a much higher quality than your usual suburban takeaways. For example our patties are always fresh never frozen, hand rolled instore. We make a lot of our own lines like Show Dogs – dagwood dogs like you get at the show and our Rockstar fries with 7 blends of melted cheese, mince, onion and our Chompers sauce. We aim to be the families weekly go to for your takeaway meal.

QSR Media: Can you tell us any plans that your brand is particularly excited about?

Simon Bowe: 2016 will be the year we launch forward with plans for 3 new stores and creating the franchising framework which will enable us to sell our first franchise by the end of the year. We already have a large number of requests for franchises but have taken the path of making our systems and processes bulletproof.

We really believe in technology making business easier and have spent the last three years implementing technology well ahead of our size to ease everyday tasks like stock control and ordering, rostering and payroll, accounting system integration, employee efficiency and food safety.

QSR Media: Regarding locations, any particular places or states you'd like to expand to? Which areas are attractive to your brand?

Simon Bowe: Our focus for now will be south east Queensland to achieve economies of scale as we grow.

QSR Media: What would you like to tell the market about where your brand is strategically headed?

Simon Bowe: Chompers is a market that isn’t locked into a trend. With a varied menu we have items to appeal to most consumers who can happily dine with us regularly due to both the range and low price point.
