Crust Parap cooks AU’s longest pizza
A gigantic effort by the franchisee.
Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Parap, in partnership with a local Darwin radio station, has created Australia’s longest pizza ever—a whopping 11.4-metre-long, multi-topping pizza that was cooked and served to the public last week.
The idea for the larger-than-life pizza—which weighed over 100 kilograms—originated from a remark made last week by Shad, co-host of “The Morning Glory with Shad and Courts” on Hot 100 FM.
“We love pizza at Crust, so as soon as we heard Shad from Hot 100 FM’s idea to make the Territory’s largest pizza, we jumped straight on board! Once we got our heads around the logistics of making a really long pizza, it all fell into place,” Sally Illingworth, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Parap franchisee, said in a press statement.
The Northern Territory’s largest pizza later turned out to be the country’s longest as well.
The record-breaking pizza was handcrafted last January 16 by Crust’s 17-member gourmet pizza-making team, and flavored with toppings from several original recipes submitted by Hot 100 FM Darwin listeners, Illingworth explained.
Making the pizza required a large base for the hand-stretched dough, hand-topping it with various gourmet ingredients, feeding the pizza through the chain’s conveyer-style oven, and laying it out on the custom-made, 12-metre serving board.
Over 500 slices of the pizza were then served to Darwin locals.
