Deliveroo launches virtual platform for delis, specialty groceries
Its ‘Deli’ service already has more than 22 restaurant and food businesses onboard.
Deliveroo has launched a new virtual brand to support smaller grocery and deli businesses during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The platform said “Deliveroo Deli” was developed as a new offering for smaller groceries, delis and independent food stores to reach consumers during the current restrictions on retail and restaurants, whilst also offering existing Deliveroo restaurant partners a way to expand their offering through new products.
All Deliveroo Deli partners will have access to the delivery company’s project management, menu optimisation, product photography and marketing support for free. Deliveroo is also removing the onboarding fee and lowering commission rates for Deliveroo Deli partners.
Products are expected to be available to order on Deliveroo and delivered straight to homes in less than 30 minutes.
“We know many of our restaurant partners are looking for ways to expand their offering during this difficult time, while many smaller and specialty food businesses have not been able to reach a broader audience through delivery. Deliveroo Deli solves both these problems, giving these businesses a way to reach more customers and Australians greater access to incredible food,” Deliveroo CEO Ed McManus said.
In response to demand driven by continued social distancing measures, Deliveroo last week expanded its customer Pickup option to restaurants nationally whilst temporarily halted commissions on Pickup orders and reduced commissions to a flat 5% for ‘Marketplace+’ orders.
This commission relief will apply for existing and new local and independent restaurant partners until 5 June.

To celebrate the launch, 5,000 Melbourne Top Trumps games will be given away.
