Jamaica Blue redesigs cafes to cater to short, medium, and long stay customers
The brand also invested in new coffee-making equipment to make serving faster.
Jamaica Blue has unveiled a major redesign of its café concept, focusing on providing a tailored experience for short, medium, and long-stay customers through the creation of dedicated zones.
The new store design debuted at Perth International Airport, Terminal 1, featuring vibrant, contemporary styling with warm tones complementing the brand’s traditional blue palette. The updated design aims to improve customer flow by providing distinct areas based on the duration of customers' visits—whether they are looking for a quick takeaway, a casual sit-down, or an extended stay.
The short-stay zone focuses on fast transactions, offering clear pick-up areas for grab-and-go customers. Medium-stay zones cater to customers who prefer a brief sit-down, whilst long-stay areas provide comfortable seating for those intending to spend more time at the café, such as travellers awaiting flights.

In addition to the new layout, Jamaica Blue has also invested in state-of-the-art coffee-making equipment aimed at improving service speed. Key additions include Ubermilk frothers for instant steamed milk, PUQpress automatic tampers for consistent coffee quality, and high-speed convection ovens to streamline food preparation.
Matthew Williams, Chief Development Officer at Foodco, explained the reasoning behind the revamp:
"Our café designs needed a vibrant new look and refresh to evolve with the brand," Matthew Williams, Chief Development Officer at Foodco parent company of Jamaica Blue, said.
Jamaica Blue has been using its signature coastal-themed design since the 1990s, characterized by cool tones, natural textures, and a relaxed, beachside ambience. However, with shifting consumer needs and rising demand for personalized experiences, the brand saw the necessity to introduce a more dynamic and adaptable layout.
The redesign also emphasises operational efficiency, making it easier for staff to manage peak periods by streamlining the ordering and service process. Which, the brand said, is particularly crucial for high-traffic locations like airports, where customer turnaround times are typically shorter.
Meanwhile, to jumpstart franchising of the new design, Foodco will be offering new franchisees $30k ex GST credit for those who sign on before 31 March. The initiative was first launched in December last year.
The new look and tech are being rolled out across both new and refurbished Jamaica Blue sites, with a strong pipeline of store openings planned over the next 12 months.
