Gloria Jeans brings one of the world's rarest coffee beans to Australia

Australian coffee lovers will be among the first to try one of the most sought after coffees in the world.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees is giving its guests the opportunity to sample and buy the award‐winning Lot # 5 Norival Favaro – Sao Marcos bean, which is one of the world’s most sought after coffees. Only 2,756 kilograms, or 46 sacks, of the bean was produced, making it an exceptionally rare bean in the context of the eight million metric tons of green coffee produced globally each year.

This exotic limited edition bean was recently awarded fifth place in the world at the prestigious Brazil Cup of Excellence awards, which recognizes the highest quality coffee across the globe.

The Cup of Excellence awards come from a strict competition that selects the very best coffee produced in a particular country for that year. The winning beans are chosen by a select group of national and international cuppers and are cupped at least five different times during the competition process.

The final winners are awarded the prestigious Cup of Excellence and the coffee lots are sold to the highest bidder during an internet auction.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees Global Drink Development Manager, Kane Bodiam, said the Lot # 5 Norival Favaro – Sao Marcos bean, from the Sarutaiá region of Brazil, excelled in a tough competition because of its distinct and aromatic flavours, velvety texture and delicately sweet aftertaste.

“This coffee is exquisite and, without a doubt, one of the finest beans I have ever come across,” said Mr Bodiam.
“It is an achievement to source coffee of this quality and testament to our commitment as a company to source the best coffee beans for our guests to enjoy.“

Lot # 5 Norival Favaro – Sao Marcos boasts a rich and full‐bodied cup of coffee, with delectable hints honey and orange blossom.

Sao Marcos coffee beans are grown in an optimal climate and altitude in South America, before they are handpicked and roasted to create a well‐developed body, pleasant aroma and a lively sweetness.“This single origin bean plays on the palate in so many ways and the mouth feel strikes tones of effervescence and smoothness, as the flavours build and finish into a liqueur, caramel and citrus finish,”said Mr Bodiam.

“It is a rare opportunity to be able to enjoy one of the finest coffees in the world and one with such a distinct character and aromatic profile,” he said.
