Gloria Jean's Coffees crowns 2012 Australian Barista Champion

Nathan Trebbin from Gloria Jean’s Coffees Castletown, Queensland is the Australian Barista Champion for 2012.

Eight Barista finalists presented four espressos, four lattes, and four signature beverages to the panel of judges at Castle Towers Shopping Centre in Sydney.

Sensory judge Kane Bodiam from United Supplies said Nathan displayed precision and technique, as well as an ‘infectious enthusiasm for coffee’.

Nathan’s Espresso was of the highest quality in the competition, but it was his signature beverage, the Spiced Date Espresso, that won the points from the judges.

“Nathan’s Spiced Date Espresso showcased creativity, innovation and a curiosity for coffee – it had the perfect balance of sweetness,” said Bodiam.

Nathan will move on to compete in the Gloria Jean’s Coffees International Barista Championship, representing Australia, in New Delhi, India in October.

As the winner of the championship, Nathan also received a trip to Hawaii, Kona to enjoy the Kona coffee festival.
