Healthy food chain Greenstreat to go big with 100 stores by 2027
Its founders are aiming to triple the business by next year.
Looking back on where they began, Greenstreat founders, Jackson and Jesse McGrath have always been adamant about connecting people to real food at a fast-food pace. That's why the two are aiming to increase their stores to 100 by 2027.
The brand is currently thriving in three locations: Albury NSW, Wodonga VIC and Brisbane QLD. The opening in Richmond will be a first for Greenstreat in Melbourne.
In a quick interview with QSR Media, Jackson McGrath explained the origins of Greenstreat and how they are fighting to give more Australians a better and healthier choice when dining out.
QSR Media: Tell us about Greenstreat. What is the story behind you?
Greenstreat passionately strives for delicious, plant-forward meals made from fresh ingredients and produce that prioritises local sourcing and industry, while being as transparent as possible.
My brother Jesse and I opened the first Greenstreat in 2018 in our hometown Albury, New South Wales. We have since expanded to Brisbane, Queensland and Wodonga, Victoria. Our Richmond, VIC store is due to open in Melbourne in the next fortnight. Jesse and I identified a gap in the market and were confident we could reconnect people to real food at a fast-food pace. Where possible, Greenstreat produce is sourced locally, not only supporting Australian industry but also ensuring that customers are able to trace the origins of their food.
Why have you chosen Melbourne as the fourth place you opened a branch to? What will be unique for the branch?
Melbourne has always been close to our hearts. Growing up, mum and dad always took us to Melbourne for research and inspiration. Melbourne is the food capital of Australia (if not the world) and we can’t wait to provide the amazing people in Melbourne with fast, feel-good food.
What can you say about Australians’ healthy eating habits? How does Greenstreat come in?
Our health is suffering. 67% of adults are obese or overweight. Only 5% of adults meet the fruit and vegetable consumption recommendations. Looking at what’s on offer though, it’s no wonder.
We have lost touch with real, fresh food. Fast food chains sell overly processed meals, made of questionable ingredients. Even “healthy” eateries offer salads drenched in mayonnaise, sugar, and salt.
The good news is that there is already change happening in Australia. Great healthy restaurants are popping up and people are screaming out for more. Greenstreat is driven to help this flow in the right direction. Showing people that healthy doesn’t have to be boring, in fact, it can be so satisfying.
What has been your edge against your competitors?
We utilise the fantastic produce on a seasonal basis, showcasing what Australia has to offer. We have a diverse menu that allows everybody to enjoy what they love. Our tech side of the business is very progressive, and we aim to really lead that space in our industry. We have our own Greenstreat app that enables customers to order pick-up and earn points for future visits. We’re also working through our own delivery service to ensure speedy, quality meals straight from our kitchen.
What is the goal for Greenstreat?
To change the way Australians eat. We aim to treat the world to the freshest greens, so people can feel their best! We’re aiming to triple our business in 2023, hoping to reach 100 locations within the next few years.
How/where do you see your brand in five years?
Pushing for 100 stores and having a big impact on the Australian fast food industry by allowing people to choose a healthier option.
