Nando's launches new 'Odd Couples' ad campaign

Nando’s Grocery Australia released a set of three ads which attempts to showcase the different relationships Nando’s PERi-PERi sauces can create.

The ads centre around the theme of odd couples, showing that bizarre coupling and relationship differences can be overlooked and excused if "they both share a love of Nando’s PERi-PERi sauce".

A continuation from the 2015 Find Your Match campaign theme which matched people to their sauce personality to find ‘love a first bite’, the Odd Couples campaign features three couples who disagree on the small stuff, but when it comes to the important things in life – such as which PERiPERi
sauce flavour is their favourite – they are united.

Brand Manager, Stefani Dethan, says the ads are an entertaining way to educate Australians on sauce usage, and will help further position Nando’s PERi-PERi Sauces as a mainstream condiment that belongs in every kitchen and on the side of every plate.

“Traditionally, the chilli sauce segment has been driven by a ‘how hot can you handle it’ mentality that focuses on heat and burn,” Dethan said.

“Our research tells us flavour is equally as important to our market. This campaign highlights the range of Nando’s PERi-PERi Sauce heat levels, proving there’s something to suit all tastes and gives everyone reason to add something exciting to their dish. Through exploring what makes these relationships work, we’ve also used the ads as an opening to showcase some of the usage occasions for Nando’s PERi-PERi Sauce that exist beyond chicken. Think lamb, sandwiches, burgers and steak.“

The ads explore three couples, ranging from parents to uni students, and three heat levels, representing the diverse Nando’s sauce buying audience. In a nod to the brands Southern African and Portuguese heritage, one ad features a couple with a language barrier, where the female only speaks Portuguese and the male doesn’t understand a word of what she’s saying, however on mention of PERi-PERi, their love truly blossoms.

Each ad features an image shot of the Nando’s PERi-PERi Sauce range as well as the Nando’s PERi-Ometer, a proprietary asset designed to make heat navigation easier, also found on bottle labels in store.

Nando’s Grocery Australia has also recently expanded its PERinaise range, launching an extra mild Lemon and Herb flavour to complement its existing Mild and Hot variants, all in new shaped easy-squeeze packaging. This comes off the back of their potato chip range launched earlier this year which features Chicken, Smokey BBQ and hot flavours.

The Nando’s PERi-PERi Sauce Odd Couple ad campaign kicks off with a concentrated online campaign across TV, online video and Facebook and will run until mid-November.The campaign also stretches into supermarket territory with a bottle necktag offering customers who don’t find their perfect match a money back guarantee.
