Iced beverage consumption has doubled from 2010 to 2016

On the back of rising temperatures.

With Australia's fourth warmest year on record, recent temperatures in some states have soared to all-time highs (smashing a 150-year record) and the big sweat isn't over yet. The good news is you can quench the thirst of your consumers and deliver on flavour full, healthy indulgence - in just 15 seconds.

The hot weather has a big impact on Australian consumers’ eating and drinking habits. According to the NPD Group, iced beverages are performing exceptionally well, with an average annual servings growth of 13 percent in the past six years. In fact, the iced beverages category (iced coffees, frappes, frozen drinks and smoothies) has seen average purchase consumption doubling in the same period.

Key findings from The NPD Group are:

  • Nearly one in two Australians purchase a cold drink from a commercial outlet on a daily basis.
  • The main consumer for iced beverages is under 35’s, making up 66% of all purchases.
  • Three out of four iced beverages are purchased as an accompaniment to food.
  • Key opportunities are evident around all snacking occasions and lunch.
  • With commercial visits being driven by consumers looking to treat themselves and wanting to try something new, iced beverages is an ideal menu item to deliver on new experience motivations, something that the Millennial consumer is all about.

Convenience in consumption is what makes all the difference for the under 35’s consumer. With a “want it now” mentality they’re seeking out special flavours and different ingredients - and are prepared to pay more for products that fit the bill and make their “super busy” lives easier.

In response to these trend insights, category innovator Nestlé Professional Beverage Solutions has developed Nestlé SJORA and UNCLE TOBYS Easy Ice Blends range of 15-second smoothies, frappes and crushes.

Aside from real fruit flavour, with 75g of real fruit in every cup, the range packs a taste punch and contains no artificial flavours or colours. Easy Ice Blends come in four options; Berry Crush, Banana Oat, Mango and the new taste sensation, Pine Lime Coconut.

All you need is a blender, freezer space and water to serve up a delicious iced drink in three easy steps; add 1 full tray of frozen product with 200ml tap water, blend for 15 seconds and serve.
It’s that simple.

If you want to drive your bottom line iced beverages is an opportunity not to be missed.
