Digital orders seize 50% of fast food market

Pizza chains lead in digital orders.

Major quick-service restaurant brands receive their orders digitally, with one in two orders coming from digital sources, a report by Fonto revealed.

Digital ordering methods include self-serve kiosks, brand websites and apps, QR code menus, and delivery apps such as Uber Eats and DoorDash.

Pizza chains Domino’s and Pizza Hut lead this category with 83% and 79% of orders coming digitally. This is followed by major chains like KFC, McDonald’s and Hungry Jack’s, with more than half of orders coming from digital sources.

Meanwhile, branded apps have grown in popularity. 21% of QSR orders in the December quarter were made using branded apps. Most notable is Guzman y Gomez, which recorded a third of all its orders coming from its app.

Meanwhile, major fast food chains continue their race to improve digital ordering with the use of AI, with a particular focus on drive-thrus.
