Australian coffee market sees 5.6% annual growth
Café culture and higher incomes boost demand for quality coffee.
The Australian coffee market, valued at US$2.44b in 2025, is expected to climb to US$3.2b by 2030, rising at a CAGR of 5.6%, according to Mordor Intelligence.
Higher disposable incomes and the expanding café culture continue to push Australians toward pricier, higher-quality coffee.
New South Wales accounts for just over a third of national coffee sales in 2024, helped by Sydney’s role as the country’s biggest urban and commercial centre.
Queensland is expanding the fastest, with a projected annual growth rate of 6.53% through 2030, supported by population growth and a rapidly developing café scene.
BeanScene reports that the number of coffee shops has risen by roughly 30% in recent years, creating more places to buy coffee and giving brands greater visibility.
Even as Australians visit cafés less often, they’re spending more when they do. Hey You’s 2025 Daily Brew Report shows café spending reached $722m in June 2025, down 1.6% from a year earlier.
Transactions fell 3.6% to 41 million, and the number of unique customers slipped 1.7% to 9 million.
However, average spending per visit rose 2.1% to $17.70, and monthly café spending now sits at about $85 per person—roughly 4.4% of the average Australian’s weekly disposable income.
