Pizza Hut comes out with a statement after Vegemite brand issue
The chain quietly pulled out ads for its recently launched Vegemite Stuffed Crust pizza after receiving a notice from Vegemite's mother company, Mondelez.
Pizza Hut, in response, released a statement noting "for legal reasons, Pizza Hut is currently reviewing all imagery relating to the promotion of the Mitey Stuffed Crust Pizza."
The online marketing push of the Mitey Stuffed Crust Pizza was in anticipation of the Australia Day long weekend. Ads relating to Vegemite have since been removed, however the pizza is still being advertised prominently.
According to a story published by Mumbrella, "Vegemite has been a trademarked name since 1923, with that mark currently owned by Mondelez International, which also now owns the trademarks for several Vegemite logos, including the traditional four sided diamond with rounded corners synonymous with the brand’s labels."
