Michel's Patisserie baristas take on Sydney Coffee Challenge
The baristas will be joining the upcoming 2015 DaVinci Gourmet Australian Coffee Chain Championships in Sydney on 3-5 September.
The contest will pit the nation’s baristas in three different categories - Latte Art, Signature Beverage and Service.
Michel’s Patisserie Barista Trainer Antony Juwono said his team has been training hard to perfect their coffee making skills.
“My team is really creative and have exceptional coffee making skills, I definitely think we have a great chance of taking home the title and making Melbourne proud,” he said.
Franchisee Emanuele di Parsia said he is honoured to be sending his top baristas Hemant Verma from Michel’s Patisserie Elizabeth Street, Kris Tan from Spencer Street and Lina Chung from Victoria Gardens to compete in the championships.
“I am very proud of my baristas and can’t wait for them to show off their skills in such a great competition. Kris, Hemant and Lina competed in Retail Food Group’s Espresso Perfecto Barista Championships in 2013, where they placed first in Victoria and 2nd overall in the competition,” he said.
“Competitions like these give our baristas an opportunity to grow and develop their careers, as well as providing recognition for the fantastic skills and hard work they put in every day.”
Fellow competitors in the championship include employees from fellow Retail Food Group brands, Donut King and Gloria Jean’s Coffees.
Retail Food Group’s Learning Operations Manager Peita Laws said all of the teams have an equal shot of winning and that preparation will play a big role in the outcome.
“They’ve been training really hard and I can certainly see a bit of internal competition between the coaches,” she said.
“The biggest thing for the teams will be pulling all the training together on the day to showcase their skills. Remembering to remain calm, enjoy the amazing experience and most of all do what they do best, make some awesome coffee!”
The event is being held from 3-5 September at the Royal Hall of Industries, in Moore Park, Sydney.
