Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses head decorator awarded at 2016 Victorian Baking Show
Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses’ Head Decorator Maria Cerra was named the Best Decorated Novelty Cake (Themed) at the Baking Association of Victoria, 2016 Victorian Baking Show held on the 21st February, marking her third consecutive win.
The award, which has a different theme each year, was ‘Shepparton Fruit Belt Region’.
The winning cake depicted the key Victorian fruit regions through the use of hand carved and decorated fruit tins to celebrate the hard work that goes into picking, sorting and distributing such delicious fruit from all over the Shepparton region. The tins of fruit were delicately placed on an edible tree stump platter and each tin of fruit was topped off with hand crafted pears, peaches and apricots, along with floral decorations adorning the cake.
“I spent over 48 hours hand-crafting the fruit & SPC Fruit tins represented on the cake. I was inspired to use SPC Fruit as they are synonymous with the Shepparton region. I wanted each tin to be unique and so life-like that they could easily be mistaken for the real thing. Judging by the response I received from the judges, I feel I got pretty close to achieving this”, said multi-award winning decorator, Cerra.
