Pizza Capers taps into the unfilled niche in the Indian pizza market

It has recently announced plans to launch within the Indian market via local firm Krsna Foods (India) Pvt Limited.

QSR Media Asia has reached out to Mike Gilbert, Chief Executive - International of Retail Food Group, to discuss its Indian expansion, and how Pizza Capers plans to introduce the Australian taste to the Indian palate.

QSR Media: Tell us more about the Indian expansion. Why did you think India is a good fit for Pizza Capers?

While there is ample competition in India within the value and lower end of the pizza market, there is a noticeable gap for a premium but affordable pizza offering with takeaway and delivery expertise, which is exactly Pizza Capers’ niche.

QSR Media: What opportunities do you see in the country?

There is a growing middle class within India with an increasing disposable income that are demanding products and services of better quality, creating the perfect market for Pizza Capers’ premium offering. The sheer scale of the country presents significant opportunities for brand success, which we think will be best achieved by targeting the aforementioned customer segment.

To ensure our product offering is tailored to the specific food and customer challenges presented in India, we have leveraged our highly credentialed product innovation and development team who will help introduce product variations on the Australian mean that cater to the Indian palate.

QSR Media: Do you have plans to further expand in Asia? Other parts of the country?

All of our brands have been reviewed for suitability of entry into the Indian market and we are confident that there will be opportunities to introduce more than just Pizza Capers to the Indian population, as well as other Asian markets.

QSR Media: Why did you pick Krsna Foods (India) Pvt Limited as your Master Franchise Partner?

KRSNA has a solid heritage within the QSR pizza segment, being heavily involved within India and the Asia Pacific region for other QSR brands. Additionally, there happens to be a deep connection to Australia, which makes them a very good match to RFG and our values. We have every confidence of Pizza Capers success in India under their stewardship!

QSR Media: Can you tell us any plans that your brand is particularly excited about?

What RFG does really well is continual product development and innovation, and we’re excited to experiment with new flavours and concepts as we expand our Indian offering. Recently in Australia we have released some vegan options, which have been extremely well received domestically and which think will be well-suited to the Indian market.
