Subway capitalises on new survey which shows more than 2/3 of resolutions were to eat better and exercise more
The poll was conducted by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) to launch Healthy Weight Week which ends on 29 January 2012.
One of the main objectives of Healthy Weight Week is to encourage people to feel better, one change at a time. Kathleen Alleaume, a dietitian and exercise physiologist, said, “People start the year with good intentions but often our busy lives take priority. Eating on the run is a common area that lets people down. Yet, it can be as easy as swapping a greasy burger for lunch, to having a salad, wrap or lean meat sandwich.”
Alleaume said the 6g of Fat or Less range available at Subway® Restaurants is a convenient and healthier option, noting that all the salads in this range have fewer than 700kJ and all sandwiches have fewer than 1300kJ.
“With regard to exercise, ensuring you get out at lunchtime instead of eating lunch at your desk can definitely help add to the amount you move each day. Small changes are more likely to result in long-term weight loss and you’re creating habits that can last a lifetime,” she added.
Alleaume also believes menu labelling is a positive initiative towards addressing Australia’s overweight and obesity epidemic. “Clear, easy-to-use nutrition information will help people make healthier selections,” she said. According to her, all Subway® Restaurants across Australia have displayed the kilojoule content on menu boards in store since November 2011.
