QSR Media Labour laws story evokes strong industry response

From comments we received about our labour laws story it would seem that this is the biggest issue in the industry today. Responses such as the below were fairly typical:

"Yes, I agree with all the comments. I find that the labour laws a very grey and confusing and does not cover our feild of operation well. We are constantly asking our franchisor for advise or where to seek the advise to have definitive answers to our questions, so that we do not fall foul of the law, but as it stands right now, no one knows the correct answers and are not prepared to stand up and say this is how you should treat and pay your staff. As a Franshisee we find that we want to do the right thing, but simply can't, due to these complications. Now you add in obligations with regard to OHS and the complexities here and the costs to fulfull these obligations, makes me think I should shut up shop and go sit on the beach in Bali, which has an effect of no jobs for 70 of my employees."
