KFC completes rollout of new recycling systems
KFC is the first QSR to participate in this nationwide recycling initiative.
The new recycling systems were rolled out at selected KFC restaurants throughout New South Wales.
The initiative called Do the Right Thing, Use the Right Bin is funded and organised through the Australian Packaging Covenant.
In NSW, new recycling systems have been installed at 59 KFC restaurants for public use, providing away-from-home recycling opportunities for an estimated 30 million customer visits each year.
A further 135 KFC restaurants also have back-of-house cardboard recycling bins, diverting thousands of tonnes of waste from landfill nationally by the end of this calendar year.
Michael Clark, Chief Supply Chain Officer at KFC Australia said, “Thanks to the Australian Packaging Covenant and industry and government partners, KFC is able to provide more opportunities for our customers to feel ‘so good’ about the environmental solution.”
He said KFC, as part of its environmental commitment, will continue to roll out the recycling systems at restaurants across the country.
The Do The Right Thing, Use the Right Bin project is a partnership between the Australian Food and Grocery Council’s Packaging Stewardship Forum, the National Packaging Covenant Industry Association, the Environment Protection Authority, Closed Loop Environmental Solutions and KFC and Pizza Hut.
