Gloria Jean's Coffees to hold 2012 Australian Barista Championship Final

Top baristas will face each other at Castle Towers Shopping Centre, in Castle Hill New South Wales, on 9 August 2012.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees’ 2012 Australian Barista Championship showcases their most talented and creative baristas from around the country.

Twelve finalists from across Australia representing three categories in the competition -- Barista, Franchise Partner, and Support Office -- will present four espressos, four lattes, and four signature beverages to the judges.

Seven judges will be standing by to assess and critique the beverages. The judges award points based on their technical skills, with sensory judges assessing the taste balance and visual appearance of the beverages as well.

Head of Learning and Development at Gloria Jean’s Coffees, Melissa Anderson, said, “Our competition is aligned to World Barista Championship standards and we encourage each of our baristas to achieve their greatest during the competition.”

The highlight of the competition is the signature beverage, where finalists present their own original masterpiece.

David Makin, who represented Australia and placed runner up in the World Barista Championships 2008, will be hosting the event.
