Wendys aiming to grow to 300 stores in ANZ by 2016
And, celebrates 35th brithday.
Presently, Wendys has a network of 220 stores in Australia and a further 35 in New Zealand. The chain predicts that the total number will reach 300 in just two years.
According to Wendys Chief Executive Officer Rob McKay the brand has continued to evolve through the years, surviving numerous challenges by staying true to its principles – a deliciously simple strategy that has helped the brand achieve longevity in a highly competitive market.
“We’ve recently been seeing an increase in the number of enquiries from people wanting to know how they can get involved in a franchise, reaffirming that the Wendys brand is strong and continues to resonate.”
Adding, "that now extends beyond our traditional store model with a number of new formats recently introduced as a way to take our brand to new places and attract a more transient or mobile customer; those who might not be part of the traditional shopping centre demographic.”
In South Australia, the chain has been rolling out new stores as part of On The Run convenience outlets which has been an extremely successful innovation for the brand and a very important development for its business, explained McKay.
“This success will see a further 50 stores installed across On The Run and other store outlets across the country in the coming months. However, our traditional store model remains the core of the Wendys brand offering."
Meanwhile, the chain continues to focus on delivering cost efficiencies for its franchisees. This year, the brand achieved an average reduction in occupancy costs of 24% after lease renewal negotiations. According to McKay, franchisee profitability remains to be the brand's first priority.
