Mature age workers jump to franchising after redundancy
345,800 people lost their jobs last year.
Cafe2U reported that according to the Labour Mobility Survey released by the ABS during August this year, 345,800 people lost their jobs due to retrenchment in the year leading up to February this year.
Workers who are 45 years old and over were made redundant, and have found it difficult to apply for a new job.
Cafe2U shared that some of their franchisees experienced this with their former jobs, before deciding to join the business and run their own franchise.
According to John Stanton, Cafe2U’s Australasian Franchise Recruitment Manager, many mature age workers are enquiring about franchising with the brand, and some even used their redundancy package to finance their new career path.
Cafe2U Archerfield, QLD owner, David Owens, shared, “In the beginning I sent off countless job applications and got nowhere; I could not even manage to secure an interview.
“I started exploring the world of franchising with Cafe2U and found that not only did they did not discriminate against older workers, but they offered great training and support systems, as well as an exceptional level of professionalism. I used my redundancy package from Unilever to fund my new career with Cafe2U and I am so glad I did - discovering this path was a godsend.”
Stanton shared that Cafe2U offers an Acceleration Package which provides training support for workers to retrain as small business operators. The program teaches them the skills that they would need in running the business, from making coffee to cold calling and sourcing new business.
