Here's how Hooked Healthy Seafood revamps fish & chips into a gourmet QSR

And it's looking to launch 2 more stores in Melbourne.

Established six years ago, Hooked Healthy Seafood has since continued to reinvent the humble fish and chips —aiming to transform the brand into something that every generation can enjoy. Recently, they have been looking at establishing business partnerships to help growth and expansion into a national QSR brand.

Below is a Q&A with Ray Good, founder of Hooked Healthy Seafood.

QSR Media: Tell us about the business?

Ray: Hooked healthy seafood set sail 6 years ago in Melbourne with our first store in Chapel St, Windsor and our second store opened 2 ½ years ago in Brunswick St. Fitzroy. At Hooked we have re invented the traditional fish & chip shop & made it cool again, with a focus on giving customers the healthiest possible choices.

QSR Media: What sets you apart in the fast casual space?

Ray: Well no one is really doing seafood with a focus on fresh & healthy. We offer sustainable & gluten free options, we make our own sauces & even hand cut our own chips & potato cakes from locally grown potatoes.

QSR Media: What are some of your 12-month goals?

Ray: We are planning to open 2 more stores in Melbourne.

QSR Media: Who are your customers?

Ray: Everyone, young & old, Australians love seafood

QSR Media: How are you using social media to grow your business?

Ray: We use Facebook & Twitter like everyone, it’s an important part of how we communicate as a brand. We also have an Instagram account, which is linked to our other social media, so we can share our own & customer’s photos of Hooked.

QSR Media: What kind of results are you getting from social media?

Ray: Good , but I have found you really need to think outside the box; everyone is bombarded with so much information these days so you need to find new ways to stand out from the crowd, since linking a ‘Like’ button to our website from our Facebook page the number of ‘likes’ have increased.

QSR Media: You have stated you are trying to grow your business, what strategies are you using?

Ray: We get a lot of interest about franchising Hooked, people love the brand so we are looking for potential business partners to help take Hooked to the next level & grow the business. In Australia you have national brands for most foods, burgers, pizza, Mexican etc but not seafood, no one owns that space & there is a great opportunity for a national / international seafood / fish & chip brand.
