QSR Media talks to Alexi Karafilakis, director of Mochachos, which has a network of four stores in Perth, about the growing popularity of the international brand and its plans for the year.

QSR Media: Can you tell us more about Mochachos?

Alexi Karafilakis: Since 1994 Mochachos has been a brand name in South Africa and its neighbouring countries such as Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho and Botswana. Mochachos is an established and major player in the quick service restaurant industry. With decades of experience at its disposal, combined with its proven business model and operating systems it has a recipe for success. For the past three years Mochachos has set its footprint and brought a spicy zing into Perth with its company owned and franchised stores. You will find these stores in major Shopping Centres both in food courts and drive thrus.

Mochachos supports an optimally evolved menu with a core delight in Mexican Flavoured Flame Grilled Chicken prepared with a special blend of dry herbs and spices, as well as a variety of traditional Mexican dishes such as Fajitas, Burritos, Enchiladas, Chimichangas and Quesadillas. We must not overlook to mention, the Mochachos chicken burgers which, for no less than twenty one years, are renowned for their oversized serving and piquant savour. It is worth mentioning that items on our menu are supported by the South African Health Foundation which makes our menu a healthy eat out option.

QSR Media: Can you tell us any plans that your brand is particularly excited about?

Karafilakis: Our exponential growth year on year is particularly exciting and we welcome the opportunity to work hand in hand with more and more hardworking individuals who will thrive within our franchise system. The international market is looking for exciting Franchise concepts as people prefer to become self-employed and self-reliant. We believe that we fit well into this niche requirement and we are gratified with our proven and tested success model.

QSR Media: What do you hope to accomplish for 2016?

Karafilakis: With progress and growth comes re-engineering and our Mochachos brand is no exception. Mochachos is a dynamic and evolving brand, and in line with our ongoing strategy of uplifting and enriching the brand and public familiarity in the food industry both locally and internationally, we continuously engage in the challenge of keeping the brand and offering current and fresh, thus ensuring that we continuously exceed the expectation of our patrons and resulting in food outlets that stand way above our competitors.

In 2016 we will continue to accomplish what we have done in previous years in terms of listening to our customers and improving our service delivery through evolvement and progressive improvement.

QSR Media: Regarding locations, any particular places or states you’d like to expand to? Which areas are attractive to your brand?

Karafilakis: Repeated expression of interest in opening Mochachos stores in cities such as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane has set our sights in that direction.
