Healthy, handcrafted sausages may soon be coming your way.

QSR Media sat down with Cory Becker, founder of Snagga's Healthy Sausages, to discuss his brand's future, and the hurdles it is facing to get there.

Snagga's serves fresh, healthy, handcrafted sausages made from premium cuts of Australian meat, and fresh local produce. The brand operates food trucks and vans all across Melbourne, and has an outlet in Geelong.

QSR Media: What's new at Snagga's?

Cory Becker: Snagga's Healthy Sauages started life as a leading Melbourne Food Truck servicing a boutique range of clients such that includes Channel 9, The Block, Channel 7, Telstra, Melbourne Uni, Underground Cinema, KPMG, Sea Road Ferries, Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

During 2016 we launched our first QSR+ in Geelong, building a strong customer base and winning rave reviews for our range of Healthy Sausages and new Fresh Burger menu.

QSR Media: What can you say are the challenges you are currently facing in the industry? Opportunities?

Cory Becker: The shift of consumer preferences to healthy, nutritious options has been well documented. What we are now experiencing is that in a Food Court location, people are happy to wait 5 minutes for their food to be grilled fresh to order, as opposed to eating out of a Bain Marie. Our customers are also telling us that they are happy to have new dining options, as most Food Courts tend to be heavily saturated with Asian and pre prepared foods.

People are looking for an experience, a conversation and a reason to come back and continue the relationship. The in store experience and contact with between our customer service staff and Grill Master's has to be engaging, genuine and respectful. The customer interaction has to match the high quality of the food.

The greatest opportunity for Snagga's is the development of the QSR+ Market segment, leveraging our ability to provide a Fast Casual level quality of food and customer experience at the price point and speed of a QSR.

QSR Media: Any big plans you have before the year ends?

Cory Becker: We are currently scoping out and assessing sites for our second store. We have an opportunity to bring people closer to the food experience, providing a real point of difference in the market. Our second site will be a great opportunity to learn from our first store, create an amazing customer experience and test our systems in a high foot traffic location.

QSR Media: What would you like to tell the market about the direction of your brand?

Cory Becker: A large proportion of our customers think that we are a franchise business with a national presence. The quality of our store design, customer experience and quality of food has created a strong brand impression. It would be a natural progression for us to develop a franchise model.

Over the past 12 months we have been supported by leading franchise experts FC Business Solutions. The advice and access to they provide through their Business networks and forums has been invaluable.

Our focus is now on using the knowledge we have gained to build our second store, continue developing our profitability story and create our franchise system so that we can share the opportunity to own your own business with other committed entrepreneurs.
