Below is a Q&A with Sean Carthew, Director of Burger Urge.
QSR Media: How do you differentiate yourself from other gourmet burger QSR's?
Sean: Unique branding, Superior Products, Good Sense of humour
QSR Media: You have just franchised a store, tell us a bit more about this?
Sean: It's in Kelvin Grove, owned by twin brothers - 23 years old, 100sqm store, 10 year lease.
QSR Media: What advice would you give to someone looking to franchise their QSR brand?
Sean: Franchising before being ready can be fatal. Take 3 - 5 years and get your model right before taking the next step. Make sure you have a good franchise team and are well capitalised because it is very expensive.
QSR Media: What are your top 3 priorities?
Sean: Build a great brand, create a great culture with great team of people, enjoy the journey!
QSR Media: You have a big year projected for 2013 with another 4 franchised stores, how are you going to manage that growth?
Sean: By getting site selection & franchisee selection right. We have an excellent / experienced management team and excellent advisors.
QSR Media: It's often been said that it's difficult to attract quality franchisees, what's your strategy here?
Sean: We have a great product and a strong brand with solid financials. We have no doubt that quality people will find us because we are a quality operation and it is a natural / organic progression.
QSR Media: How would you describe Burger Urge the brand?
Sean: Young, Edgy, Dangerous, Unconventional, Individual
QSR Media: Any other comments?
Sean: We Love what we do and that is reflected in the quality of our work & in the business. We are confident the business will succeed because of our passion for it.
