Swan Street was in need of a gelato store says Gelato Messina
Opens location in Swan Street and unveils two new flavours.
"We always thought Richmond was a pretty cool area - it reminds us of Smith Street in Fitzroy around the time we opened the store there," a spokesperson from Gelato Messina told QSR Media.
"Fitzroy is our most popular store, and it was bursting at the seams, so when the opportunity to open on Swan Street arose we couldn’t say no. Hopefully it will help us serve more of our Melbourne customers. It’s going well so far, so looks like the area needed a dose of gelato + house music."
The store's menu will include its regular 9 cakes, 35 signature gelato flavours and 5 rotating weekly specials. In addition, two new permanent flavours will be included in the launch: Macadamia Crunch (AKA Steve Jobs, a quirky spin off from MAC-adamia) and a Coffee and Hazelnut Praline Sorbet.
"Macadamia Crunch (AKA Steve Jobs) was one of our most popular specials - we had a lot of customers begging us to bring it back, so we did," they noted.
"We created the coffee and hazelnut praline sorbet because we wanted a dairy free gelato that wasn’t predicatble. It was quite tricky to engineer a recipe that worked texturally - but the end result has a really unique flavour and mouthfeel, you’d never know it was a sorbet."
