Macca’s expands training programme to convert to uni credits
The initiative follows earlier trials with Capability.Co, Torrens University, and the University of South Australia.
McDonald’s Australia is expanding its “Archways to Opportunity” programme nationwide, allowing more than 20,000 employees to convert workplace training into university credit.
Under the scheme, crew coaches and managers can earn up to eight recognised micro-credentials through their on-the-job learning and face-to-face training in areas such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
These micro-credentials can be used toward university degrees in fields including business, commerce, management, human resources, technology, and IT.
Each credential can count as credit for up to one university subject, potentially reducing study time by up to a year and saving participants more than $20,000 in tuition costs.
When combined, the credits may also qualify workers for direct entry into an MBA programme.
The initiative is being offered in partnership with several Australian universities, including the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Torrens University, the new Adelaide University, James Cook University, Curtin University, Charles Darwin University, the University of Tasmania, the University of Canberra, the University of New England, Swinburne University, and the William Angliss Institute.
The national rollout follows a pilot earlier this year with Capability.Co, Torrens University, and the University of South Australia.
