Deliveroo expands free online courses for riders' families

The initiative now allows them to access 700 free online courses on OpenClassrooms.

Deliveroo is now offering free online learning courses for riders’ families as they stay home amidst social distancing measures.

This is an extension of the platform’s existing Rider Academy, which allows riders to attend free courses on topics ranging from software development to project management to
developing soft skills through OpenClassrooms, an online education platform.

Deliveroo said it is both expanding the number of courses available from 300 to 700 and making these available to riders’ partners and children.

The expansion to Rider Academy builds on the number of measures the company has put in place to support Deliveroo riders, which include mandatory contact-free pick-up and delivery, its rider support fund and up-to-date guidance.

“Many of our riders ride with us to support a long-term ambition and Rider Academy provides a way for them to upskill while still being able to ride with Deliveroo when and where they want. While everyone is likely to have some more downtime at home we want to make sure we support both riders and their loved ones as much as we can,” Deliveroo Australia CEO Ed McManus said.

Deliveroo earlier launched a new tipping functionality for consumers to elect to add an extra amount to their order in support of their local restaurants. The platform will match the first 10,000 customer tips, with tips going directly to the restaurant.
