Bakers Delight holds 13.6% share in fresh bread market, study reveals
The whole sector is now worth AUD$2.9 billion.
Bakers Delight now has the biggest market share among specialty bread shops in the fresh bread market, occupying 13.6% which is 0.5% higher than their 13.1% share last 2010.
According to a study by Roy Morgan, the bakery chain ranks top 3 in the fresh bread sector.
“Bakers Delight trails only the ‘Big 2’ as an outlet for fresh bread and this shows that a well-run business can take on and beat more highly capitalised competitors with a well-defined strategy in a ‘niche’ market by offering great customer service and excelling at their core competency,” Michele Levine, CEO of Roy Morgan, said.
Big players in the fresh bread market are the supermarket giants Woolworths Group and Coles Group occupying 26.6% and 25.3% respectively. Combined together, they dominate half of the market.
Other bread shops, meanwhile, had a 1.8% fall with a 9.7% market share. The portion of Brumby’s Bakery's share has also went down 1.7% from 3.5% in 2010.
