30 major chains closed 302 stores in 2019: report
KFC, meanwhile, saw the most number of store openings in a year.
Approximately 302 stores from 30 major chains were closed in 2019, a new report by on business solutions and mapping platform GapMaps has revealed.
The study noted that there has been a 234 new openings across the 30 chains cited, resulting in a net closure of 68 sites or 1.7% of the total network.
Subway was singled out as having the largest closures with 48 sites closed last year, followed by Pizza Capers (25) and Nando’s (19).
KFC, meanwhile, has launched the most number of stores in the year by adding 21 new stores.
On a monthly basis, there has been more openings than closures in December 2019, with 31 new sites and 24 closed locations.
McDonald’s and KFC have registered the largest network movement in the same period with 10 new sites and two closed and eight new openings and one closure, respectively.
