How much do Aussies spend on coffee?
Australians spend more on coffee each year than the economies of some countries.
Australians spend more than $12.14b (US$8b) on coffee each year, more than what some countries in the Pacific make, according to a report by dairy co-operative Norco citing IBISWorld data.
Australia’s coffee spending exceeds Fiji’s $8.34b (US$5.5b) GDP and is eight times Samoa’s $1.62b (US$1.07b).
Meanwhile, a study conducted by Pure Profile on behalf of Norco, between 22 August August 22 and 8 September, revealed that Australians drink around 4.1 billion litres per year. This is enough to flood Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium nearly 370 times or fill the Sydney Cricket Ground more than 200 times.
More than six out of 10 say they don’t feel like themselves until the first sip of coffee, whilst 68% rank coffee as the most important part of their day.
Nearly a third of Australians (29%) cite milk quality as the key to a perfect coffee, with 40% nominating a smooth, creamy texture as their top preference.
38% say takeaway coffee would be the very last indulgence they’d give up, ahead of sweet treats, streaming, or even travel.
For coffee preferences, milk-based classics continue to dominate: cappuccinos (26%), flat whites (21%) and lattes (18%) lead the line-up.
