Ben & Jerry’s was the number one pick.
Gen Zs named Ben & Jerry as their number pick for employers in the Hospitality and QSR segment, according to Australia’s Top 100 Gen Z Employers 2024 report by Student Edge, YouthInsight and Workplacer.
Following Ben & Jerry’s in the top 10 in the Hospitality and QSR category are Krispy Kreme, Starbucks, Chatime, Boost Juice, Bakers Delight, Subway, Gong cha, Guzman y Gomez and Grill’d.
Round it out are the Sushi Train, KFC, Baskin Robbins, San Churro, Domino’s, Gelatissimo, Donut King, The Coffee Club, Hungry Jack’s, Nando’s, and McDonald’s.
Overall, Ben & Jerry’s ranks 34th amongst 100 employers in Australia, followed by Krispy Kreme at 38, Starbucks at 39, Chatime at 41, and Boost Juice at 44.
Good for short-term
The report notes that most of the survey participants are currently employed or actively seeking jobs in hospitality or retail industries. This is because young people are drawn to employment in this category by the appeal of customer experiences and personal interest, as well as the attractive employee benefits offered.
“Cash bonuses and flexible working conditions are amongst their favourite employee rewards. Additionally, nearly half of the respondents currently receive employee discounts. They also cite discounts and free food as reasons for their interest in working in the companies operating in the Hospitality & QSR category,” the report said.
However, the report revealed that hospitality jobs are seen as short term plans only. Though 28% of Gen Zs are seeking jobs in hospitality, only 3% identified hospitality as their dream industry.
