Foodco managing director Serge Infanti
DECK
How did you get involved in the multi-site restaurant industry?
I left IBM in 1991 to join the coffee industry which at the time I saw as a huge opportunity in Australia. [I] opened my first Muffin break store in Brisbane and soon after opened a further four Jamaica Blues and Muffin breaks throughout Queensland. [I] became part of the franchisors management team in 1995 and [became] a stakeholder and director of the Foodco group in 2001.
What particular industry issues or developments are you currently thinking about?
Clearly, the outcomes of the parliamentary inquiry are topical. But, I believe the bigger issues are around margin squeeze and return of investment [ROI], not only in franchised operations but generally in hospitably in Australia. Funding is also problematic in small businesses.
What are you most excited to do during the QSR Media Conference and Awards in Sydney?
Meeting others and exchanging ideas and also listening to what’s new on the horizon
