GYG to focus on drive-thru format expansion in Australia
The brand wants to open 30 to 40 restaurants per year.
Guzman y Gomez plan to focus on opening more drive-thrus in Australia as the group reported a 10.6% increase in comparable restaurant sales, driven by channel growth in digital and drive-thru sales and strong growth across all dayparts.
In its half-year financial report, GYG reported global network sales of $471m in H1 FY2024, a 31% increase from the same period last year.

In Australia, digital channels, which include commentary app, web, and delivery, represented 40% of network sales in H1 FY2024 (app and web: 17%, delivery: 23%). 52% of drive-thru restaurant sales were transacted in drive-thru lanes.
GYG opened 14 new restaurants in FY2024 year-to-date with an additional 12 restaurants in the pipeline. The group said it is targeting 30 to 40 restaurant openings per annum over the long term.
