McDonald's comes up trumps
McDonald's crowned as the reigning king of fast food.
McDonald's is the most popular fast food chain in the country today, according to a report recently released by independent research company Roy Morgan.
The report noted that last year, 55% of Australians visited at least one fast food restaurant in an average four-week period, for either takeaway or to dine in; and Mcdonald's was the clear favourite, visited by three out of ten Australians, which totals to 29.5% percent of the population.
Aside from total number of customers, It also topped the list for highest average number of visits per customer at 2.7 times in an average four week week period.
"The supremacy of McDonald’s in terms of total customers and average visitation rate isn’t especially surprising," said Warren Reid, Roy Morgan's Group Account Manager for Consumer Products. He attributed the chain's success to its affordable menu, the 900-plus restaurants offering drive-through, and extended opening hours and/or playground for the kids.
"In today’s time-poor society, such ease and convenience is a real drawcard."
Meanwhile, KFC came second in the most popular list, followed by Subway. The sub sandwich chain, however, outranked the fried chicken chain in terms of average number of visits per customer.
"[It's] no surprise, really," added Reid, "considering it won the Quick Service Restaurant of the Year award in the 2013 Roy Morgan Research Customer Satisfaction Awards. "
"[Subway] does well in enticing its customers back for multiple visits."
Lagging behind the popularity contest are Hungry Jack's, Domino's Pizza, Red Rooster, Pizza Hut, Nando's, Eagle Boys Pizza, and Oporto.
