Luke Baylis responds to SMH online story re "Big Bust Up at Sydney's Sumo Salad'
The following statement was released by Luke Baylis, Sumo Salad after a story appeared on SMH online about damaged furniture at a a CBD store. SMH online reported that Mr Isaac Chalik a franchisee had hired the workers to destroy the furniture, as a result of a dispute with Sumo Salad.
"Despite false accusations made by Mr Isaac Chalik, franchisee of stores trading with MLC and Sydney Central Plaza, SumoSalad has taken necessary and appropriate action as a last resort to protect our customers, franchisees and brand.
Mr Chalik was in multiple breach of the Franchise Agreement and SumoSalad has acted within the terms of this agreement. Our concerns included health, product quality, food presentation and food safety issues. Mr Chalik has failed to take the requested remedial action despite being given ample and repeated opportunity to do so.
We have endeavoured to be reasonable from the outset, but we are not prepared to compromise the SumoSalad standards or ignore fundamental breaches of the Franchise Agreement.
SumoSalad takes its obligations to ensure our customer health and safety will not be compromised seriously and we have been forced to take this unfortunate action in order to protect our customers, franchisees and brand."
